Forecasters expand marginal risk for severe weather in Alabama on Wednesday into Thursday morning

A marginal risk for severe weather will include a large part of Alabama from Wednesday night into Thursday morning. A marginal risk means isolated severe storms will be possible.

Strong to severe storms may be possible across a large part of Alabama on Wednesday night into Thursday ahead of a strong cold front.
NOAA’s Storm Prediction Center now has a large part of Alabama in a marginal risk for severe weather on Wednesday into Thursday.
The area under a marginal risk has been greatly expanded since Monday, when it only included part of south Alabama.

The chances of Alabama having a White Christmas are almost always low to zero. There has to be 1 inch of snow on the ground on Christmas Day to qualify. This map shows the historical probability of a White Christmas across the U.S. However, some spots in Alabama may get a dusting of snow on Christmas Eve.

A few holiday snowflakes are still in the forecast for those in north Alabama, according to forecasters.
Will it be a White Christmas? Nope. According to the National Weather Service at least 1 inch of snow has to be on the ground on Christmas Day to qualify, and that doesn’t look to be in the cards this year.

There s a chance that parts of north Alabama could see a bit of snow on Thursday morning, which is also Christmas Eve. This is the Weather Prediction Center s winter weather outlook for 6 a.m. Thursday until 6 a.m. Friday. It shows a 10 to up to 30 percent chance of 0.25 inches liquid equivalent of snow or sleet for the areas in green. The National Weather Service in Huntsville said a dusting will be possible for parts of north Alabama on Thursday morning.
