5/13/2021 May 13 (Reuters) - A U.S. government weather forecaster said on Thursday La Niña has ended and El Niño-Southern Oscillation (ENSO) neutral conditions are likely to continue through the Northern Hemisphere summer. ENSO neutral conditions refer to those periods in which neither El Niño nor La Niña is present, often coinciding with the transition between the two weather patterns, according to the National Weather Service’s Climate Prediction Center (CPC). There is a 67% chance the pattern will be seen in the June to August period, but “La Niña chances are around 50% to 55% during the late fall and winter,” the CPC said.

PENDLETON â The fire started when a wire detached from a power pole, igniting the grass near Perkins Avenue and 17th Place in Pendleton on Wednesday, May 5. Then, the snapped wireâs electrical current met the ground behind the Red Lion Hotel, starting a second fire.
Firefighters eventually contained the blaze, but Pendleton Fire Chief Jim Critchley said if conditions were even slightly drier, it may have been a different story.
âWeâre lucky today because we still have some green in our grasses,â he said. âBut if this were to happen later on in the season, that would have caused a bigger problem.â
