Mississippi State Department of Health officials announced on Tuesday that all drive-thru vaccination sites in the state will be closed on Wednesday due to forecasted storms, resulting in thousands of appointments being rescheduled.
Strong storms are expected to move into the northeast Mississippi area to continue through late Wednesday night. Most of the northeast Mississippi area is at a moderate risk level, also known as a level 4 out of 5. The most severe part of the storm is expected in Oxford around Wednesday afternoon.
The main threats of the storm include tornadoes, significant damaging winds and large hail, according to the National Weather Service Storm Prediction Center.

The National Weather Service s Storm Prediction Center who is responsible for storm outlooks across the United States has assigned their highest rating, a level 5, for much of Mississippi and Alabama into Wednesday night. They have upgraded much of South Carolina to a level 4 on Thursday, which means atmospheric conditions are likely to be conducive for a regional outbreak of damaging winds, tornadoes, and hail.

A severe weather threat has grown for the New Orleans metro area ahead of a cold front pushing through the area.
Areas on both sides of the Lake lay within an area under a enhanced risk of severe weather, with a slight risk further south of Lake Ponchartrain. While severe impacts may not be widespread, there is a threat of damaging winds, hail and isolated tornadoes.
The highest risk area falls over northeast Louisiana, Mississippi and western Alabama. In those areas, the National Weather Service s Storm Prediction Center warns of Long-track, intense tornadoes are expected along with damaging winds and large hail.
