DALLAS Wintry weather is forecast for much of the U.S., with freezing temperatures expected to dip as snow falls as far south as Texasâ Gulf Coast.
Marc Chenard, a meteorologist with the National Weather Serviceâs Weather Prediction Center, says cold air that far south is unusual.
Weâve been seeing light snow coming down in north Dallas for several hours now. While highways have been treated, a lot of city - residential roads have not. A lot of people just taking it easy today, staying home. @CBSDFWpic.twitter.com/nIc9f4bIJM Erin Jones (@erinjonesnews) February 14, 2021
DALLAS (AP) Snow and ice blanketed large swaths of the U.S. on Sunday, prompting canceled flights, making driving perilous and reaching into areas as far south as Texas’ Gulf Coast, where snow and sleet were expected overnight. Typically, we just don’t have quite this much cold air in place that far south,” said Marc Chenard, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service s Weather Prediction Center.
The storm has prompted officials in Houston, where temperatures were in the 70s (20s Celsius) earlier this week, to advise residents to prepare for power outages and hazardous roads that could be similar to those experienced in the wake of a Category 5 hurricane.
