New Delhi, May 20 : Remnant of the extremely severe cyclonic storm Tauktae has weakened further into a well-marked low-pressure over east Rajasthan and adjoining west Madhya Pradesh, and it is very likely to move further northeastwards to Uttar Pradesh during the next 24 hours.
The Well-marked low-pressure area over east Rajasthan and adjoining west Madhya Pradesh has further weakened into a low-pressure area and lay centered at northwest Madhya Pradesh and neighbourhood at 5.30 a.m. on Thursday, said the National Weather Forecasting Centre of the India Meteorological Department (IMD).

New Delhi: West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee is chairing a high-level meeting with the Chief Secretary, Home Secretary, Health Secretary, Disaster Management Team, Civil Defence and District Magistrate of coast districts on Cyclone Yaas. According to reports, the Chief Minister is expected to review the preparedness and give necessary instructions to officials to ensure all possible safety measures are taken to evacuate people.
According to reports, the meeting is currently underway.
On May 19, the India Meteorological Department predicted that a new cyclonic storm, named Cyclone Yaas, is expected to start forming in the Bay of Bengal by May 22. Low pressure of the new cyclonic storm is expected to start forming in the Bay of Bengal by May 22. May 23 should mark the depression stage, and the final cyclonic storm is expected to hit by May 24-25, RK Jenamani, senior scientist, National Weather Forecasting Centre, IMD told ANI.

Mumbai (Maharashtra) [India], May 20 (ANI): The Indian Navy carried out several rescue operations as cyclone Tauktae wreaked havoc on life and property in many states of India.
Amid heavy downpour, which led to very low visibility and massive sea waves reaching a height of five-six metres that posed a huge challenge to their rescue operations, the Indian Navy managed to rescue as many as 188 people and recovered 37 bodies from barge P305, which sank in the Arabian Sea 35 nautical miles from Mumbai due to the cyclone.

Amid heavy downpour, which led to very low visibility and massive sea waves reaching a height of five-six metres that posed a huge challenge to their rescue operations, the Indian Navy managed to rescue as many as 188 people and recovered 37 bodies from barge P305, which sank in the Arabian Sea 35 nautical miles from Mumbai due to the cyclone.
Describing how the Indian Navy led the rescue operation, Commander Deepak Diwan said, At midnight we got a call that P305 is in distress and we need to rescue the people. We prepared a crew and decided the area where the vessel was positioned. The weather was very marginal when we first took off in the early morning with winds gusting up to 50-60 km per hour.
