Twelve new COVID-19 infections were recorded in the past 12 hours to 6:00 pm on March 8, including 11 imported cases, according to the National Steering Committee for COVID-19 Prevention and Control.

The imported patients were sent to quarantine establishments right upon arrival in Binh Duong province, Ho Chi Minh City and Ninh Thuan province. The remaining case was detected in a quarantine area in Hai Duong province.
So far, the country has seen 1,586 domestically-transmitted cases, including 893 infections found since January 27 when the new wave of COVID-19 broke out.

HANOI: The first batch of Covid-19 vaccines arrived in Vietnam on February 24, which is hoped to curb the latest virus outbreak in the country.
Deputy Minister of Health, Truong Quoc Cuong said that 117,600 doses of Covid-19 Vaccine AstraZeneca arrived at the Tan Son Nhat International Airport in Ho Chi Minh City on Wednesday morning.
“This vaccine has been used in over 50 countries and has high degrees of efficacy of over 80%,” he said.
The made-in-UK vaccine Zeneca was given permission to be imported into Vietnam on February 1. AstraZeneca Vietnam had worked with the local Department of Science and Training to carry out a clinical trial in Vietnam before the import of the first 204,000 doses into Vietnam.

Prof. Dr. Huynh Thi Phuong Lien has been awarded with the title of “Hero of Labour in the “Doi Moi” (Renewal) Period” in recognition of her outstanding contributions to the development of the vaccine industry in Vietnam from 2009 – 2019.

Lien is a senior specialist at the State-owned Company for Vaccine and Biological Production No.1 (Vabiotech) under the Ministry of Health, who had 53 years of experience in medicine.

The Ministry of Health and Medical Services (MHMS) assures the public that work on acquiring Covid-19 vaccines once they are approved, and the preparations in country to receive and roll out COVAX (Covid-19 Vaccines Access Facility) is well underway and progressing according to plan.
The statement was made in response to claims made by the office of the opposition group that health is far from ready in its preparedness to receive and roll out the vaccine due to delays with appointments of technical expertise to support the government in this regard.
