Prime Minister Hon. Roosevelt Skerrit has announced that there has been an improvement in the country’ economy, even as Dominica continues to fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.
Dominica’s economy, like many others in the world, was negatively impacted by the shutdowns of businesses and travelling as a result of the pandemic.
“The economy hasn’t gotten back to where it was pre the pandemic. As you know our economy was projected to grow by 5.6 percent in 2020 following another 9.6 or 7 percent the year before with a number of capital projects that were on stream. But here came the pandemic and shut downs and travel restrictions etc. and every country in the world has suffered from this pandemic and the situation persists; albeit not as dramatic as it was in 2020 but the reality is you are not bringing in the revenues that you were bringing in that the same period in 2019,” PM Skerrit
OVER 134 MILLION IN SUPPLEMENTARY ESTIMATES APPROVED BY PARLIAMENT
Over 134 million dollars have been spent in supplementary estimates from July 1
st to June 30
th 2020 by the Government of Dominica.

Seven percent or $8,940,782 was met through grant funding, 92 percent or $123,899,360 was funded by local resources, while 1 percent or 2 million dollars was financed by loan funds.
Minister for Trade, Commerce, Entrepreneurship, Innovation, Business and Export Development, Hon. Ian Douglas stated that the Government of Dominica continues to be prudent in the management of public funds.
He explained that the detailed supplementary estimates gives a clear indication of Governments firm commitment to be transparent in financial matters.

The La Plaine Constituency has seen numerous investments from the Government of Dominica in various sectors as they move towards building a Dynamic Dominica.
The housing and education sector has benefitted from these investments, as well as other social programmes in the constituency.
While the Government’s ongoing housing revolution has already touched the La Plaine constituency, the Member of Parliament, Honourable Kent Edwards stated that there are still housing concern to be addressed in other parts of the area.
To date, over ten million dollars have been spent on housing in the La Plaine Constituency following the devastation of Hurricane Maria in 2017.
