Government mulls subsidy for hog raisers, plans job recovery

(File) + February 23, 2021 A RECOMMENDATION to provide a 50-percent insurance subsidy for commercial hog raisers to encourage them to boost production is under study while a task force is set to be implement a strategy to address unemployment and stimulate the economy, Cabinet Secretary Karlo Nograles said on Tuesday, February 23, 2021. These are among the measures lined up by the government to address economic woes caused by the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) pandemic. Nograles said the insurance subsidy will be taken from the quick response fund of the Department of Agriculture (DA).

An executive order institutionalizing the NERS Task Force is already being drafted. “Like the rest of the world, the country’s employment was hit hard by the pandemic. In a televised briefing Tuesday, Cabinet Secretary Karlo Alexei B. Nograles said President Rodrigo R. Duterte is set to sign an EO creating a National Employment Recovery Strategy task force. Mr. Duterte formed five task forces in 2020, one of which the Inter-Agency Task Force on Emerging Infectious Diseases has taken the lead in managing the pandemic.

PH employment state seen to recover in next admin

(Mark Balmores, MB FILE) Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) Assistant Secretary Dominique Rubia Tutay said that with the country’s economy expected to recover in early 2023, the pre-pandemic state of local employment would most likely be regained within the same timeline.      “We are not seeing this na fully recovered na po tayo (that we are fully recovered) by this year, but I would say that it’s gonna be a better year than in 2020,” Tutay said during a televised briefing.  “Siguro po, hopefully we go back to our pre-pandemic stage, early 2023 hopefully po or sana next year. But not even probably next year. So we are looking at the three year period po for us to be able to go back to the pre-pandemic stage,” the official added.
