In Canada, publicly administered COVID-19 tests are free and meant for people with symptoms.
For everyone else the asymptomatic, travellers at airports, film-set workers, people visiting loved ones in long-term care private companies generally do the test. The price ranges from about $160 to $400.
The economy probably couldn t reopen so quickly without these private tests. But some doctors and health experts are concerned about a lack of regulation.
While public tests are generally done in health-care environments such as hospitals and clinics, private tests can be done anywhere, from construction sites to homes.
