Share Via Email   |  A+A A- By Express News Service VIJAYAWADA: The State government on Saturday moved a house motion petition in the Andhra Pradesh High Court challenging the State Election Commissioner releasing the schedule for panchayat elections and sought a stay on the election proceedings. The High Court will take up the petition for hearing on Monday. On Friday, State Election Commissioner Nimmagadda Ramesh Kumar had released the schedule for panchayat elections. According to the SEC, the election process will commence on January 23. The elections will be held in four phases from February 5 to 17.

State Election Commissioner Nimmagadda Ramesh Kumar, with whom the Jagan regime has been engaged in a battle since March last year, announced the schedule hours after his meeting with Chief Secretary Aditya Nath Das and other top officials. Reacting to this, the government said announcement of gram panchayat poll schedule was unilateral and amounted to violation of the Supreme Court orders. The SEC has adamantly announced the poll schedule without considering the state governments views.

Hyderabad: The Andhra Pradesh State Election Commission (SEC) has moved the High Court seeking contempt proceedings against the chief secretary and Panchayat Raj secretary for their alleged violation of the court’s orders regarding cooperation with the panel over holding polls to rural and urban local bodies.
