EC bans Mamata Banerjee from campaigning for 24 hours, says she made highly insinuating, provocative remarks

Kolkata: The Election Commission (EC) on Monday banned West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee from campaigning in the ongoing state elections for 24 hours from 8 pm today and said she had made highly insinuating and provocative remarks laden with the serious potential of the breakdown of law and order and thereby affecting the election process .
The ban comes into force ahead of the fifth phase of assembly polls in the state on April 17.

April 6 and the counting of votes will be done on
May 2.
The voting will take place strictly following the COVID-19 protocols issued by the Union Health Ministry. The officials inside polling booths will wear masks, face shields, and gloves and use hand sanitisers, said the Election Commission of India (ECI).
The voting time have been increased by an hour. The number of polling booths has also been increased from 66,007 to 88,936, added the ECI.

Kolkata: Election Commission of India (ECI) rubbished West Bengal Chief Ministerâs claim that voters have been intimidated at Boyal in Nandigram that went for polls on April 1 during the second phase of polling.
Notably, the TMC supremo and candidate of Nandigram was seen sitting inside booth seven of Boyal on the poll day, claiming that the voters were being intimidated by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). After special observers Nagendra Tripathi reached the spot and assured the TMC supremo that he will keep strict vigil at that area, then the TMC supremo left the spot.
