The Lethbridge Police Service wants you to know even though you might not have your eyes on the road as you fiddle with your cellphone, its officers certainly may have their eyes on you. “In the Traffic Response Unit all of our vehicles are unmarked,” states Sgt. Kevin Talbot of the LPS Traffic Response Unit; “so they look like any other vehicle out on the road. And a lot of them are trucks. So it is very easy to pull up at an intersection beside someone and look down on or across at another vehicle of the same height and the individuals don’t know you are there. That is probably our best tool when we’re doing traffic enforcement when it comes to distracted driving.”

Here’s something you may not know: someone has died on a Texas road every day for the last 20 years. That’s according to TxDOT. That statistic alone is alarming. Let’s put an end to that this holiday season. According to a report from FOX 7, the Killeen police Department is increasing its traffic enforcement through the rest of the year to promote traffic safety. KPD will be using the Selective Traffic Enforcement Program (STEP) grant. KPD says the increased traffic enforcement has been made possible through the grant, and that they ll be focusing on areas in the city that have statistically seen serious injuries and fatalities due to crashes. Those include I-14 from Highway 195 to East Rosewood, as well as Highway 95 from FM 3470 to Chaparral Road.
