Plan for tiny homes homeless village goes to Des Moines City Council

A Des Moines-based nonprofit dedicated to helping homeless people survive, find housing and rebuild their lives has completed the first step in establishing a transitional housing community on Des Moines south side. On July 15, the city s Plan and Zoning Commission approved rezoning land at 1661 County Line Road that would allow Joppa  the nonprofit spearheading the project   to construct 50 tiny homes and buildings for supportive services.  The project will be up for City Council approval in August, according to Joppa spokesperson Kayla Choate. Preliminary plans would be to start off with 24 loft cottages. Each cottage is a small, single-resident home complete with a kitchenette and bathroom. Several of the cottages will also be accessible for people with disabilities.

The cereal is coming to Hy-Vee stores, exclusively, starting on Monday, July 26, with preorders available online Friday at PLB Sports and Entertainment s website, plbse.com. Fans can preorder a two-pack of the commemorative corn flakes for $29.99, or a box signed by Dwier Brown for $69.99. “My passion for baseball is only exceeded by my love of this classic film and the role Dwier Brown played as John Kinsella,  Ty Ballou, the president of PLB Sports and Entertainment, said in a news release.  This is a project that Dwier and I have discussed for at least five years and, thanks to the support of Hy-Vee, it is all coming true.
