Ma keeps on parroting Beijing’s propaganda

During a speech on Saturday last week at a discussion forum titled “Resume cross-strait air travel: post-pandemic opportunity,” former president Ma Ying-jeou (馬英九) said that the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) had criticized him for being pro-China and “selling out” Taiwan.
Paradoxically, instead of reducing reliance on China, the government had increased Taiwan’s dependence on it, Ma said, adding that Taiwanese exports to China last year reached a historic high. This shows that President Tsai Ing-wen’s (蔡英文) administration is more pro-China and has “sold out” Taiwan to a greater degree than he had, Ma said.

Launch site issues force rocket firm overseas: sources

The lack of an approved launch site in the nation has forced Taiwan Innovative Space Inc to turn to Australia to launch a research rocket, sources familiar with the matter have said.
Some Taiwan Innovative Space employees departed for Australia in February to complete quarantine and preparatory procedures prior to trial launches this month, a person said on condition of anonymity.
Australian space company Southern Launch would help Taiwan Innovative Space launch its sounding rocket at a site near Adelaide, South Australia, another person with knowledge of the matter said.
Grizzlies owner buys Taipei unit

Robert Pera, owner of the NBA’s Memphis Grizzlies, has bought a luxury apartment in Taipei, the Chinese-language Liberty Times (the Taipei Times’ sister newspaper) said on Monday.
The report cited unnamed sources as saying that Pera bought a unit on the 25th floor of Continental Development Corp’s (大陸建設) 55Timeless Tower (琢白) for NT$570 million (US$20.39 million) in February.
Pera, ranked the 100th-richest person in the world, reportedly paid cash for his home in the upscale Xinyi District (信義).

On April 11, Politico cited multiple sources as saying that the HFX planned to present its John McCain Prize for Leadership in Public Service to Tsai. However, according to the news site, when the Trudeau administration became aware of this, it feared poking the Chinese bear and threatened to end funding for the forum.
