Supreme Court sends Sunflower Movement case back to High Court

Taipei, Jan. 18 (CNA) The Supreme Court on Monday remanded a case concerning eight Sunflower Movement activists who were previously given 2-4 month prison terms over the occupation of the Executive Yuan complex in 2014 to the High Court for retrial.
The Supreme Court deemed that the defendants were simply exercising civil disobedience and should receive more lenient sentences.
The eight individuals, including Wei Yang (魏揚), son of Transitional Justice Commission Chairwoman Yang Tsui (楊翠), were sentenced by the Taiwan High Court in April 2020 for inciting others to commit crimes related to the occupation of the Executive Yuan complex during the 24-day student-led protest.
