The Legislative Yuan yesterday passed a resolution to support an effort by the international community to restore democracy and human rights in Myanmar, while urging the country’s military to end the violence against unarmed protesters.
The legislative caucuses of the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) and New Power Party (NPP) separately proposed resolutions to call for democracy in Myanmar, which lawmakers then reconciled through a motion to amend.

The Legislative Yuan on Friday adopted a resolution on Myanmar in view of the escalating bloodshed targeting anti-coup protesters in recent weeks. The Republic of China is a country that cherishes democracy, freedom, and peace, and it finds the Burmese military s use of force against civilians and its trampling of human rights unacceptable, said the resolution, which was supported across party lines.

Taipei, April 8 (CNA) The legislative caucus of Taiwan s ruling Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) will seek to pass a resolution in the Legislature on Friday to express concerns over the recent violence in Myanmar, DPP Legislator Fan Yun (范雲) said on Thursday.
The Legislature will discuss the draft resolution proposed by the DPP at Friday s session, said Fan at a press conference intended to condemn the violent crackdown by Myanmar s troops on anti-coup protesters, who are calling for the release of detained officials, including pro-democracy leader Aung San Suu Kyi.
