The premier is reacting to a Toronto Sun report Tuesday night that says a member of Ontario’s COVID-19 Science Advisory Table has also been paid by a teacher’s union.
The province’s science table advises the government on pandemic restrictions, including school closures, and the Toronto Sun is reporting that Dr. David Fisman is a member of the table and was hired by the Elementary Teacher’s Federation of Ontario to give opposing arguments about school re-openings in a document dated September 2020.
Toronto confirms 14 cases of UK coronavirus variant
2:15 pm There are 14 cases of the UK coronavirus variant in Toronto, the city’s Medical Officer of Health Eileen de Villa said today.
During a press briefing at city hall, de Villa said the emergence of highly transmissible means Toronto is “medically” in an “uncertain phase of the pandemic.”
It’s not known how the presence of the variant will play out in Toronto. As such, de Villa said people should act as if the UK variant, which studies have shown spreads more quickly and can lead to more severe illness in some people, is spreading.
