The live event, titled Plan Your Garden and Support Local, kept things basic for the most part, but Rendek and Lucey did get into the weeds at times, addressing specific issues while alternating between slides and answering questions from the chat box.

Get ready to garden: Green Thumb Thursdays at Morrisson-Reeves Library

Palladium-Item RICHMOND, Ind.  Garden season is fast approaching. Are you ready? Whether you want to start your first garden or are a veteran gardener looking for tips, Morrisson-Reeves Library’s Green Thumb Thursdays series this spring has a session for you. Green Thumb Thursdays promotes gardening best practices to participants. “As spring emerges, many are looking to enjoy the sunshine, and our Green Thumb series has tips for rookies and longtime gardeners,” Beth Harrick, MRL’s program specialist, said in a release. “We are excited to partner with local environmental educators to provide support for our community of gardeners.” Session topics will include tips for easy gardening, how to enrich soil, dealing with diseases and pests, starting seed indoors, and the benefits of container gardens and raised beds. MRL partnered with Cope Environmental Center and Purdue Extension of Wayne and Fayette Counties to provide expert facilitation for these sessions.

Throughout the Lancaster County region, there are hands-on classes that teach things like how to make a resurrection garden and a succulent planter. There’s also a seed swap in Elizabethtown. There also are virtual classes on topics like flower arranging plus virtual talks about growing native plants and more. The in-person events are limited to small groups and some virtual classes ship materials so don’t wait to sign up. Some of the virtual events are selling out quickly as well.
