LankaWeb – Daily coronavirus case count climbs to 2,970

Posted on May 24th, 2021 Courtesy Adaderana The Epidemiology Unit of the Health Ministry reports that another 687 persons have tested positive for COVID-19 in Sri Lanka, moving the daily total of new cases to 2,970. This brings the total number of confirmed cases of coronavirus reported in the country to 167,171. As many as 139,947 recoveries and 1,210 deaths have been confirmed in Sri Lanka since the outbreak of the pandemic. The Epidemiology Unit’s data showed that 26,014 active cases are currently under medical care. Posted on May 18th, 2021 Courtesy Adaderana The Epidemiology Unit of the Health Ministry reported that 784 more persons have tested positive for COVID-19 in Sri Lanka on Sunday (May 18), as the daily count of new cases moved to 2,518. This brings the total number of confirmed cases of coronavirus reported in the country to 147,720. According to the Government Information Department, 2,478 of the new cases reported today are associated with the New Year coronavirus cluster. The remaining 40 were identified as arrivals from foreign countries. As many as 121,145 recoveries and 1,015 deaths have been confirmed in Sri Lanka since the outbreak of the pandemic. Epidemiology Unit’s data showed that 25,560 active cases are currently under medical care.

Police spokesman DIG Ajith Rohana announced that persons violating the quarantine rules as well as vehicles carrying persons violating the quarantine rules will be apprehended, reported Colombo Page. Also, yesterday, 262 people were arrested for violating quarantine laws. As many as 9,850 people have been arrested for violating quarantine laws since October 30. Meanwhile, night time travel restriction will go into effect from tonight until May 31. Travel between 11 pm until 4 am next day will be restricted across the island except for emergencies, Colombo Page reported.
