Beware of cybercrimes through messages - ITSSL Daily News (via HT Media Ltd.)
While the Covid-19 is spreading throughout the country as the third wave, internet users are warned to be vigilant of cyber related crimes, Information Technology Society of Sri Lanka (ITSSL) said.
The ITSSL said the Telecommunication Regulatory Commission of Sri Lanka (TRCSL) also has taken action to educate the public on such crimes taking place these days.
Most of the crimes have taken place through messages sent to internet users saying that some commodities with high demand are given free as gifts.
The ITSSL requests users to use unpredictable passwords for their social media and e-mail accounts, to activate the two-factor authentication, not to provide credit and debit card details for unsecured websites and not to follow directions given through such unknown messages for free gifts in order to prevent their accounts being hacked or disclosed to a third party.

Pakistan was the first country in South Asia to introduce this facility for its mobile users in 2007.
When COVID-19 struck in 2020 and higher education institutions closed, National Research and Education Networks (NRENs) in Southeast Asia, instantly stepped up to ensure the continuity of education and research.
We want to shine the light on how NRENs via collaboration have risen to the COVID-19 challenge of and demonstrated their commitment and creativity in boosting education and research.
Through collaboration and solidarity, NRENs have been instrumental in the digital transformation of the higher education sector, and have ensured that those without connectivity are not left behind in their learning.
In Bangladesh and Sri Lanka, like in many other countries, the closure of higher education institutions shifted class lectures and various academic and research activities online.

Good day and GOD’s BLESSINGS to all the people of the Virgin Islands.
As we reflect on where we are today as a country and as a people, we must say that over the last 13 months we have indeed come a long way, navigating our way through the unseen and unknown realities of the global pandemic, and we are still here standing strong together.
Over the years, we may have lost loved ones along the way, but their memories live on in our hearts.
COVID-19 is still present, but the Grace of God is ever present.
