Article content They’ve replaced the general with a colonel, the tank commander with the combat surgeon and in doing so, Ontario is also moving up the vaccination of frontline workers. The change at the top of Ontario’s vaccination task force comes as Rick Hillier, the retired general hired to establish Ontario’s vaccine distribution system left his four-month post on Wednesday. On Thursday, Homer Tien, a member of the task force, a colonel in the Canadian Armed Forces and a former combat surgeon was selected to lead the vaccination efforts. Tien, currently the President and CEO of Ornge, the provincial air ambulance service, will help the province shift towards ensuring workers in places like warehouses and food processing plants are vaccinated quickly.

Posted: Apr 04, 2021 2:41 PM ET | Last Updated: April 4 Dr. Homer Tien, president and CEO of Ornge Air Ambulance and a trauma surgeon, will be operational lead of the task force as the province prepares to move into Phase 2 of its COVID-19 vaccine rollout, according to Stephen Warner, spokesperson for Solicitor General Sylvia Jones.(Rachel Scott/Ornge) The Ontario government says it has chosen Dr. Homer Tien, the CEO and president of Ornge Air Ambulance, to lead its COVID-19 Vaccine Distribution Task Force. Tien, also a trauma surgeon at Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre, will be the operational lead of the task force as the province prepares to move into Phase 2 of its COVID-19 vaccine rollout, according to Stephen Warner, spokesperson for Solicitor General Sylvia Jones.
