Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s son Yair went on the attack Monday against what he described as his “vile leftist” detractors, with ferocious and seemingly slanderous testimony at times, as part of a libel suit against him, which he is challenging with a counter-claim of defamation.
Appearing at the Tel Aviv Magistrate’s Court, the younger Netanyahu railed against the left-wing think tank Molad, which is accusing him of libel against it, and a range of other left-wing groups and individuals who have been critical of him or his father.
A host of mainly liberal US Jewish groups have welcomed yesterday’s guilty verdict in the trial of former Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin.
Chauvin was convicted of murder and manslaughter for pinning George Floyd to the pavement with his knee on the Black man’s neck in a case that touched off worldwide protests, violence and a furious reexamination of racism and policing in the US.
Many of the Jewish groups made a point of stating that the Chauvin’s conviction is not enough on its own and that much reform is needed to address systemic racism in the US.

Two Arab Israeli men suspected of violently assaulting a rabbi in Jaffa earlier this week were released under house arrest, Channel 12 news reported Wednesday.
The two men, both in their 30s, were arrested over the beating of Rabbi Eliyahu Mali, who runs the Shirat Moshe Hesder Yeshiva in the mixed Jewish-Arab district of Tel Aviv.
The judge also ruled that the “source of the conflict was not racist,” according to Channel 12.
After several days of investigation, police asked the Tel Aviv Magistrate’s Court to extend the suspects’ detention for another five days, which Judge Or Mammon denied, the network said.

Tel Aviv Magistrate s Court ordered to release brothers Ahmed and Mohammed Garboua under limited conditions Tuesday. The brothers were suspected of attacking head of the Shirat Moshe Yeshiva, Rabbi Eliyahu Mali, in Jaffa Sunday. The police requested to delay their release by one more day to file an appeal to the magistrate s court, and the pair will remain in custody till tomorrow.
The police are treating the case as assault as well as racially motivated, but the court determined that the police did not provide enough evidence to support the claim it was racially motivated. Another reason for the court s decision was because the only evidence that it was racially motivated was not immediately presented.
The UN agency for Palestinian refugees announces the launch of a digitalized education platform to prevent 540,000 students being left without schooling due to coronavirus or conflict.
The platform, in Arabic and English, is to be used by Palestinian students in Jordan, war-torn Syria, Lebanon, the West Bank and Gaza.
It is designed to make remote learning an interactive experience, offering students quizzes and games, with each lesson accompanied by videos.
The new “platform… is crucial for the continuation of learning in times of crisis, including the ongoing Covid-19 crisis and associated school closures,” says Moritz Bilagher, the agency’s acting director of education.
