The next event is the Tel Aviv Grand Slam, but the IJF is also working on preparations for the Tashkent Grand Slam, which is planned for 5th-7th March 2021. Mr. Oybek KASIMOV (UZB NOC General Secretary), Mr. Aziz KAMILOV (JFUz President), Dr. Lisa ALLAN (IJF Competition manager), Mr. Abdullo MURADOV (IJF Sport comission) The Sport Commission of the IJF has paid an official visit to Tashkent this week to inspect venues and hotels. They have also met with Uzbekistan officials in order to ensure a smooth competition goes ahead in Tashkent.

TEL AVIV An Iranian judoka who fled his country after ignoring orders to drop out of a match in 2019 to avoid facing an Israeli won a silver medal on Friday at an international tournament in Israel. Saeid Mollaei, a 2018 judo world champion, fled Iran for Germany after saying Iranian authorities had put pressure on him to drop out of the 2019 world championships in Tokyo to avoid a potential final round against Israeli contender Sagi Muki. Mollaei, who refused to pull out and reached the semi-final in Tokyo, gained refugee status in Germany and later became a citizen of Mongolia, which he represented at the International Judo Federation s Tel Aviv Grand Slam.

Singh lost to Belarus s Mikita Sviryd in the men s 100kg group while Tulika lost to Ivana Maranic of Croatia in the women s 78kg-plus category. Earlier on Thursday, the opening day of the three-day competition, the Indian team made a good start, but found the going tough in the second round.
