India on Thursday recorded maximum fresh cases and
fatalities in a day, another grim record, taking the total caseload in the country to 2,10,77,410, Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare said.
Not only has it been 15 straight day with India recording more than three lakh cases but also the second time after May 1 records saw it breaching the four-lakh margin in a day. Casualties are now closer to the 4,000 mark after nine days straight of over 3,000 deaths everyday.

New Delhi, May 6 : Amid the steep surge in Covid cases across the country, CPI(M) General Secretary Sitaram Yechury on Thursday accused the Central government of not providing help to the people.
The decision was taken owing to low occupancy, says official
The Railways authorioties have decided to cancel some special trains temporarily owing to slump in the occupancy ration in view of the sharp spike in coronavirus infections.
Train no. 08516 Visakhapatnam- Kirandul special express will be cancelled from May 7 to 21 and 08515 Kirandul- Visakhapatnam special express will be cancelled from May 8 to 22.
Train no. 08445 Bhubaneswar-Jagdalpur special express will not ply between May 8 and 22 and in the return direction 08446 Jagdalpur- Visakhapatnam special express will be cancelled from May 9 to 23.
Train no.02708 Tirupati-Visakhapatnam double-decker special express will be cancelled from May 7 to 30 and 02707 Visakhapatnam-Tirupati Double Decker special express from May 8 to 31, said A.K. Tripathi, Senior Divisional Commercial Manager of Waltair Division of the East Coast Railway (ECoR). Similarly, train no.02784 Secunderabad-Visakhapatnam special express will be cancelled

8.83% of vaccines consumed have gone waste in TN
Tamil Nadu has, so far, consumed 68.47 lakh doses of Covid-19 vaccines. While this is quite low when compared to other large States, what is more worrying is the fact that 8.83 per cent of the vaccines consumed have gone waste. In other words, as many as 6.04 lakh people could have been vaccinated at least once had there been no wastage.
Only Lakshadweep has a wastage percentage (9.76 per cent) higher than Tamil Nadu, says Union Ministry of Health data. This issue needs immediate attention.
