Institutional Quarantine for UK Returnees Testing Covid-19 Positive, Says Maha Govt Official

Amid concerns over the new coronavirus strain, all passengers from the UK who test positive for COVID-19 will be kept under institutional quarantine, a Maharashtra government official said on Wednesday. This is as per the standard operating procedures (SOPs) issued by the Centre, he said.
The other passengers, who test negative, will be home quarantined along with daily updates by district surveillance officers, the official said. The Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare on Wednesday issued SOPs for epidemiological surveillance and response for the new variant of SARS-CoV-2 virus that causes COVID-19.

A total of 333 people died due to coronavirus in the last 24 hours, taking the cumulative toll to 146,444.
A day after India reported the lowest single-day spike in 173 days since the virus outbreak, the country witnessed a slight surge in fresh Covid-19 infections with 23,950 new cases recorded in the last 24 hours, according to the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.
The overall cases in the country have now reached 10,099,066, including 289,240 active cases. The trend of daily new recoveries outnumbering fresh infections continues with 26,895 recoveries reported in the last 24 hours. The total recoveries have now reached 9,663,382.

The overall cases in the country have now reached 1,00,99,066 including 2,89,240 active cases. The trend of daily new recoveries outnumbering fresh infections continues with 26,895 recoveries reported in the last 24 hours. The total recoveries have now reached 96,63,382.
If any person is found symptomatic within the quarantine period, RT-PCR test will be conducted.

BHUBANESWAR: In the wake of a nationwide alert over the new and highly infectious coronavirus strain, Odisha Government on Tuesday made 14-day quarantine mandatory for people who have returned from UK in last two weeks. The returnees or visitors from UK, who have tested positive for Covid-19 will undergo institutional quarantine while those negative will remain in-home quarantine. The decision was taken after the Centre issued an SOP directing the States to take necessary precautionary measures and put in place required surveillance and quarantine measures for the new virulent strain.
