The President s Fire Service Medal for gallantry has been announced to a fireman who lost his life while attempting to rescue two labourers in Perambalur district. R. Rajkumar, 36, died of suffocation while attempting to rescue two labourers who were trapped inside a newly dug well at Selliampalayam in Perambalur district in July last.
The State government has already given ₹10 lakh as solatium to the family. The officers and staff of the Fire and Rescue Services collected and gave ₹44.42 lakh to the family.
The Union Ministry of Home Affairs on Monday, on the eve of Republic Day, announced the names of the fire service, home guards and civil defence personnel who will be awarded by the President.

Kolkata, Dec 17 : The Union Ministry of Home Affairs on Thursday posted three Indian Police Service (IPS) officers from West Bengal on central deputation for five years.
In a letter issued on Thursday, the ministry said that south Bengal Inspector General (IG) Rajeev Mishra has been posted as the IG of Indo-Tibetan Border Police, Deputy Inspector General (Presidency Range) Praveen Tripathi as DIG Sashastra Seema Bal and Diamond Harbour Superintendent of Police Bholanath Pandey as SP of Bureau of Police Research and Development.

New Delhi [India], December 16 (ANI): The Union Ministry of Home Affairs on Wednesday transferred several top-level IPS officers from various posts, including 1990 batch IPS officer Deependra Pathak, who served as Director-General of Police (DGP) in Andaman and Nicobar, to Delhi.
Balaji Srivastava, DGP Puducherry from the 1988 Batch has been transferred to Delhi, while RS Krishnia, 1989 batch has been transferred to Puducherry as DGP.
Satyendra Garg, who was Joint Secretary in the Home Ministry has been transferred to Andaman and Nicobar as DGP. (ANI)
