The Trinamool Congress has described the decision of the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) to accord Central security cover to the 61 newly-elected BJP legislators in West Bengal as “arbitrary and infringement in the law and order situation of the State”.

North 24 Parganas (West Bengal) [India], May 10 (ANI): Haroa Police in North 24 Parganas district on Sunday summoned Union Minister Babul Supriyo to appear before it in a case registered against him for allegedly violating the COVID rules during the West Bengal Assembly elections last month.
The BJP leader has been asked to appear at the police station within three days of receiving notice. It is found that you are involved in this case and it is revealed that there is reasonable ground to question you to ascertain the facts and circumstances about the case. Hence, you are requested to appear at Haroa PS in working hours within three days after receiving the notice, reads a letter by Haroa Police in North 24 Parganas to Supriyo.

The Tollygunge constituency went to polls in the fourth phase of assembly elections on April 10.
Aroop Biswas, also a minister in the Mamata Banerjee-led West Bengal cabinet has been representing the Tollygunge Assembly constituency for the last three terms. It is worth mentioning, Samajwadi Party MP Jaya Bachchan campaigned for TMC candidate Aroop Biswas.
The ruling Trinamool Congress is leading in 112 seats while the Bharatiya Janata Party is leading in 58 seats as per the initial trends.
