Patanjali today confirmed that it has received a defamation notice served by the Indian Medical Association (IMA), demanding an apology from Yoga Guru Ramdev over remarks on allopathy, and said it will give legally a "befitting reply".
The Indian Medical Association (IMA) on Thursday lodged a police complaint against yoga guru Ramdev, seeking an FIR over his dishonest and wrongful representations on allopathy. In the complaint submitted at the IP Estate Police Station, the apex medical body said Ramdev has wilfully and deliberately spread false, baseless and malicious information about treatment of Covid patients by established and approved methods and drugs. We have received the complaint and enquiry is being conducted, a senior Delhi Police officer said. The IMA s complaint dated May 9 said, Swami Ramdev, in order to take advantage of the Covid situation, on a public platform in furtherance of his ulterior motives has put forth dishonest and wrongful representations with regard to allopathic medicines and other allied treatment techniques of modern medical science for the COVID-19 virus.
Amid rising incidents of black fungus in the national capital, the Delhi government on Thursday declared it an epidemic with Lt Governor Anil Baijal issuing regulations under the Epidemic Diseases Act to contain and manage cases of the deadly mucormycosis in the city. Over 600 cases of black fungus have been reported in Delhi, particularly among those who are either infected with COVID-19 or recovering from the viral disease. A government notification released on Thursday said the Lt Governor of NCT of Delhi is satisfied that the NCT of Delhi is threatened with the outbreak of a dangerous epidemic disease, namely mucormycosis, among immune-compromised patients, especially COVID-19 patients being treated with steroids and that the ordinary provision of law for the time being in force are insufficient for the purpose .

While responding to an e-mail query by PTI, a statement from the Patanjali Yogpeeth quoting General Secretary Acharya Balkrishna confirmed it and said: We will give them befitting reply legally which way we do all things while serving our great motherland and humanity. The Haridwar-based organisation also said that Patanjali carries all the activities with scientific and truthful temperament and cannot allow anyone to disparage, neglect and demean the great knowledge and science of rishis and scriptures .
