India took a step forward in its fight against the Covid-19 pandemic on Monday as it began the process of administering the vaccine to citizens. With some help from the Hyderabad-based Bharat Biotech s Covaxin - developed with the help of the Indian Council of Medical Research and National Institute of Virology - and Covishield which was jointly processed by the Oxford University, British-Swedish company AstraZeneca, and manufactured by Serum Institute of India (SII) in Pune, the country found hope as pictures of people taking the shots surfaced. The inoculation drive entered its second phase on Monday in which the coverage was expanded to include everyone above 60 and those over 45 with co-morbidities.

New Delhi [India], March 2 (ANI): The chief of the CoWin portal, which is used for the COVID-19 vaccine administration by the Central government, RS Sharma, and Union Health Secretary Rajesh Bhushan are scheduled to meet representatives from states today over the issue of glitches, said Union Health Minister Dr Harsh Vardhan on Tuesday.
While addressing a press conference after getting his first shot of COVID-19 vaccine, the Health Minister said, Yesterday there were some glitches at the CoWin portal because a huge number of people was trying to register at the same time but within hours we were able to resolve the issue.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday kicked off the second phase of the COVID-19 vaccination drive in the country by getting the vaccine shot.
Harsh Vardhan had earlier praised PM Modi for leading by example by getting the COVID-19 vaccine.
The second phase of the nationwide Covid-19 vaccination drive for age-appropriate population groups began on Monday with the Union Health Ministry calling out eligible people to get an appointment at respective hospitals in the country.
