NEW DELHI: Union Health Minister Dr Harshvardhan on Tuesday said that 80 per cent of Covid-19 cases in Punjab has UK variant of the virus and asserted that the reasons behind the surge in fresh infections could be marriages, local body elections and farmer protests.
As India recorded the highest single-day rise of 103,000 new Covid-19 cases, the Centre has convened another round of meetings with chief ministers and state health ministers over the next three days amid growing calls on Monday to open up the vaccination drive against the disease to all age groups. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will interact with chief ministers on Thursday to discuss the Covid-19 situation and the ongoing vaccination drive, sources said. It was for the first time on Monday that Covid infections jumped by over one lakh since the first case was detected in the country on January 30 last year.

New Delhi [India], April 5 (ANI): Union Health Minister Harsh Vardhan has said that from a single laboratory to test positivity for Covid-19 at the initial stage of the pandemic, India now has more than 2000 labs across the country.
Harsh Vardhan, Union Minister of Health and Family Welfare addressed the 40th anniversary of AGE-CARE India and the Elders Day celebrations at the India International Centre, here on Sunday. Prof. R. Guleria, Director, AIIMS and other senior dignitaries from the medical profession were also present on the occasion.

According to the current data, on 4 April India recorded 1,03,558 COVID-19 casesâhighest since the beginning of the pandemicâand most of the cases were reported in Maharashtra.
