New Delhi: 70 districts in 16 states have seen an increase in COVID-19 cases by 150 per cent in the last 15 days, Health Secretary Rajesh Bhushan said on Wednesday. Addressing a routine briefing, Bhushan said that 60 per cent of the active cases in the country are in Maharashtra.
Earlier, Prime Minister Narendra Modi chaired a high-level virtual meeting with chief ministers and health ministers of high-burden states on Wednesday to review the COVID-19 situation. While addressing the nation the PM advised states to increase the use of RT-PCR tests for Covid-19 detection as cases surge. The prime minister called for ramping up testing in smaller towns and cautioned against the spread of the disease in villages.

New Delhi [India], March 17 (ANI): Union Minister Prakash Javadekar on Wednesday accused Maharashtra of poor administration of Covid-19 vaccines in the state alleging that MPs from the Shiv Sena were asking the Centre for more vaccines while the state has only utilised 44 per cent of what has already been delivered. Maharashtra government had only used 23 lakh vaccines out of the total 54 lakh vaccines sent to the state, till March 12., Javadekar tweeted today.
Claiming that 56 per cent of vaccines remained unused, Javadekar posted on Twitter: Now, Shiv Sena MP asks for more vaccines for the state. First mismanagement of pandemic now poor administration of vaccines.
