Union Health Secretary reviews status of passengers coming from UK India Published: Thursday, December 24, 2020, 8:46 [IST] New Delhi, Dec 24: Union Health Secretary Rajesh Bhushan reviewed the status of passengers coming from UK to India and found positive in the States/UTs of Maharashtra, Karnataka, Telangana, Tamil Nadu, West Bengal, Goa, Punjab, Gujarat and Kerala and their response measures in a meeting held through Video Conferencing today, in the presence of DG, ICMR, Health Secretaries from the States/UT, NHM MD,Ms Arti Ahuja, Additional Secretary, Ministry of Health, Dr Sujeet Singh, Director, NCDC, and other senior health officials. Rajesh Bhushan The Standard Operating Procedure issued by this Ministry on 22.12.2020 for Epidemiological Surveillance and Response in the context of new variant of SARS-CoV-2 virus detected in United Kingdom was discussed in detail in the meeting.

Dec 23, 2020, 11:19 IST AMARAVATI: The Andhra Pradesh government has ordered for full-scale screening and testing of people coming into the State from the United Kingdom, after the wake of a new strain of Covid-19. Britain and few other European countries imposed fresh restrictions after a new strain of the Coronovirus were detected that is considered being 70% more infectious. India has also suspended flights to and from Britain till 31 December to prevent the spread of this  new strain of the Coronavirus.  An RT-PCR test would be conducted on all passengers arriving from the UK and those testing negative would have to undergo a mandatory 14-day home quarantine, according to an order issued by Health Commissioner Katamaneni Bhaskar. Those testing positive will be shifted to hospitals.
