When any sort of theft occurs on campus, school officials on-site report it to their School Resource Officers, deputies from the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station assigned to each school. However, these reports do not prevent thefts from occurring before they happen.
“Somebody has to do something, because it’s costing all of us money to replace and repair the damage, and it’s the community’s money,” Manley said.
Manley encourages all residents to call the Sheriff’s Station if they see anyone on the roof of a school campus during nights or off-hours, assuring that he would not send maintenance workers up there during those times.
William S. Hart Union High School District governing board members Wednesday discussed a potential March 29 start date for junior high and high school in-person instruction, provided the number of L.A. County COVID-19 cases continues to decline.
Superintendent Mike Kuhlman, during the virtual governing board meeting Wednesday night, introduced a reopening plan to the board that would allow for in-person instruction on the first Monday following the date the district becomes eligible to reopen.
However, the board said no action would be taken on the item during Wednesday night’s board meeting, and a March 29 start date would not be set in stone by a board vote during that meeting. Board President Cherise Moore said while it was an informational session only, Kuhlman had already been given the authority last year to use emergency powers to unilaterally reopen schools “when the time was right.”
California counties move to reopen schools and businesses despite pandemic risks
Despite having the most COVID-19 infections and deaths of any state in the US, a growing number of counties in California are beginning to reopen businesses, schools and other public venues like theme parks and museums.
On Tuesday, seven more counties were lowered from the most restrictive “purple tier” to the “red tier” on the state’s “Blueprint for a Safer Economy.” The “red tier” entails a “substantial” level of risk, with 4–7 new cases per 100,000 people and a 5–8 percent test positivity rate, both of which indicate high levels of community transmission of the virus. The counties which have entered the red tier include San Francisco, Santa Clara, Napa, San Luis Obispo, Lassen, Modoc and El Dorado.

Hart District Aims To Return Students To Classroom By End Of March
Members of the William S. Hart Union High School District governing board said Wednesday that they were aiming to get students back into the classroom by the end of the month.
The Hart District’s governing board met on Wednesday to discuss schools re-opening, with a range of public comments on different sides of the issue.
“I’m grateful for all the plans that have been put in place by the district,” one person wrote in a positive comment on schools opening. “With social distancing, handwashing and masks, there should be no reason why we can’t safely start back at school once given that opportunity.”
