The school board trustees will hear a presentation by school district staff describing several different scenarios for the eventual return of students and teachers to school classroom, and consider an appropriate timeline for the resumption of classroom learning. In addition, the trustees are likely to discuss Gov. Gavin Newsom’s recently announced “Safe Schools for All” initiative a proposed $2 billion program that would offer local districts a number of financial incentives to reopen elementary schools to students and teachers during the early months of 2021. (The fine details of the governor’s proposal, which was announced at a press conference on Wednesday, Dec. 30, are not entirely clear yet).

Schools return from winter break in online-only mode

But most classrooms will be closed, as 2021 begins with online learning for most public school students. “Litchfield Elementary School District’s data from the Maricopa County Department of Public Health has skyrocketed. On the other hand, districts like Poway Unified, which had reopened campuses, have suspended in-person instruction for two weeks after winter break. Vista Unified, which opened five days a week for students who wanted in-person instruction, ended up closing some schools temporarily due to quarantines. Now, middle schools in Vista Unified will have a two-week pause after winter break, returning Jan. 19. High schools there will have a three-week pause after winter break, back Jan. 26.

Schools face high drop rates - Sedona Red Rock News

Sedona Red Rock News By: John Hecht and Alexandra Wittenberg  The COVID-19 pandemic has upended education in Sedona and the Verde Valley, with some school districts having shifted between remote and in-person learning multiple times in the first half of the 2020-21 school year alone. The disruption goes beyond the decisions of individual school boards on how to instruct students, as all area districts have reported declines in enrollment for this school year. Though many families have left on their own accord this year to try out homeschooling options or move to a district where the in-person regulations were preferred, other students were forced to be dropped due to inactivity.
