Long-time sheriff s office detective honored during reception at courthouse

Fri, 03/12/2021 - 5:47pm admin Nearly 30 years of dedicated service to the community were saluted last Friday at the Union County Courthouse in Jonesboro. Asa Busby was honored for his service with the Union County Sheriff’s Office. He retired at the end of last year. Busby’s official last day with the sheriff’s office was Dec. 31, 2020. Busby began work at the sheriff’s office in May of 1994 as a jailer/dispatcher. In 2007, he began work as a detective with the Union County Sheriff’s Office’s Drug Task Force, a post he would hold until his retirement. In that assignment, Busby played a critical role in combatting drug trafficking.

Denny appointed as Resident Circuit Judge | The Gazette-Democrat

Fri, 02/26/2021 - 12:45pm admin Justice David K. Overstreet and the Illinois Supreme Court recently announced the appointment of Timothy D. Denny as a Resident Circuit Judge for Union County in the First Judicial Circuit. Denny is being appointed to fill the vacancy created by the election of Judge Mark M. Boie to the Fifth District Appellate Court in November 2020. The appointment takes effect on March 1, 2021, and will conclude on December 5, 2022, when the vacancy will be filled by the winner of the November 2022 general election. “I am pleased to find an experienced and well-respected attorney in Mr. Denny, who grew up in Union County and came back to the area after law school to live, work, and raise his family,” Justice Overstreet said in a news release.
