JACKSON, Miss. (WLBT) - Districts across the state will soon be able to purchase cleaner-burning school buses, thanks to a grant from the Mississippi Department of Environmental Quality.
MDEQ recently announced that it had awarded $354,700 to 15 school districts to apply to the purchase of new school buses with “more stringent pollution controls.”
“Not only will the students benefit from a cleaner school bus, but the environment will as well,” said Chris Wells, MDEQ Executive Director.
Through the fourth quarter of 2020, businesses in Union received $349,830 in health-related relief from the CARES act issued by the Department of Health and Human Services.
According to numbers reported through the fourth quarter of 2020, businesses in South Carolina received $1.2 billion in health-related relief from the CARES act issued by the Department of Health and Human Services. The largest recipient of funding in the state was Prisma Health-Upstate with a total of $131 million. The average loan size in the city was $34,983 while the state s average loan amount was $258,718.
Of the money distributed, $30 billion went out automatically to health providers based on previous year medicare payments. If the money wasn t returned within 90 days the provider is then automatically entered into the repayment terms that are issued by HHS. With the money going out automatically and the rules constantly changing, some of the businesses that received the money weren t eligible to receive

Superintendent Andrew Houlihan tweeting his disappointment with the assignment.
“Today I was made aware of an elementary school assignment about the Civil War that was racially insensitive and not appropriate,” Houlihan wrote.” I want to be clear: any type of assignment such as this is unacceptable. We are taking this matter very seriously.”
