It takes 21 days to form a new habit, and to mark World Cancer Day on 4 February, international organisations are urging people around the world to pledge the next three weeks to fighting cancer. The ‘I am and I aill’ campaign is a call to action for all, encouraging cancer survivors to overcome not only their personal struggles, but the unique challenged the Covid-19 pandemic has brought.
Dubai: On World Cancer Day, which is being observed today, UAE students have embarked on a campaign for hair donation. The students plan to donate their hair to cancer patients who need it under the umbrella of Friends of Cancer Patients (FOCP) a non-profit organisation founded in 1999.
FOCP is a member of different international and regional organisations, including the Union for International Cancer Control (UICC) based in Geneva Switzerland, The American Cancer Society, The NCD Alliance and Kuwait-based Gulf Federation for Cancer Control. FoCP is also an affiliate of local health bodies such as UAE Ministry of Health, Abu Dhabi Health Authority, Sharjah Health Authority and Dubai Health Authority.
As the world s governments, scientists, and medical practitioners battle to control the covid 19 pandemic, experts say the fight against a major disease such as cancer is being slowed or hampered.
World Cancer Day is marked each year on February 4. The Day is set aside to raise awareness of cancer and to encourage its prevention, detection, and treatment.
This year, the theme acccording to the Union for International Cancer Control (UICC) is centred around I Am And I Will .
