The Union Finance Ministry on Friday pressed on the need for higher public spending on healthcare, its accessibility and affordability. As health is a state subject in India, spending on healthcare by the states matters the most when examining government healthcare spendings, according to the Economic Survey 2020-21, which was presented in the Parliament on Friday by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman.

According to the National Health Accounts, 2017, 66 per cent of spending on healthcare is done by the states.
In terms of healthcare budget, India ranks 179 out of 189 countries in prioritisation accorded to health in its government budgets. This is similar to donor-dependent countries such as Haiti and Sudan.

New Delhi: The Union Finance Ministry on Friday said that the Income Tax (I-T) Department disbursed refunds worth Rs 1.45 lakh crore to 89 lakh taxpayers in the current financial year.
This amount includes personal income tax (PIT) refunds during the period. “CBDT issues refunds of over Rs 1,45,619 crore to more than 89.29 lakh taxpayers between 1st April 2020, to 08th December 2020,” the finance ministry tweeted.
Earlier this month, the I-T department said that Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) said it refunds of over Rs 1,40,210 crore to more than 59.68 lakh taxpayers between April 1, 2020, to December 1, 2020, said Income Tax Department.
