Ahead of the presentation of the Union Budget on 1 February, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Saturday launched the Union Budget Mobile App for hassle-free access of Budget-related documents by Members of Parliament (MPs) and the public.
For the first time since independence, the budget papers will not be printed in the wake of the ongoing coronavirus pandemic. The Union Budget 2021, slated to be presented on 1 February, is going to be completely paperless.

The Halwa Ceremony , that marks the start of the compilation of documents related to Union Budget, was attended by Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, Minister of State for Finance Anurag Thakur and some top officials of the Ministry of Finance on Saturday (January 23). For the ceremony, halwa is prepared in a large frying pot and served to the entire staff involved in the Budget making exercise.

Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, Minister of State for Finance Anurag Thakur and senior officials of the Finance Ministry on Saturday participated in the symbolic ‘Halwa Ceremony’ that marks the beginning of compilation of budget documents.
