The SC had in 2018 said that while adultery as an act could be judged on the grounds of civil issues, including the annulment of the marriage, it could still not be considered a criminal offence

New Delhi: The Supreme Court of India on Wednesday issued a notice based on the Centre’s plea that a 2018 judgment by the apex court to decriminalise adultery under Section 497 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) should not be applicable to personnel from the armed forces.
