Lakshadweep Islands has reported its first-ever coronavirus case, a year after the pandemic ravaged almost all States and Union Territories of India.
According to media reports, the island, until now, was the only Indian territory free of the virus. The man, who tested positive for the virus in Lakshadweep belonged to the India Reserve Battalion. He had left for Kavaratti by ship from Kochi on January 3. He has been tested Covid-19 positive on Monday.

UT cadre to offer J&K wider choice of officers: Dr Jitendra

New Delhi [India], January 6 (ANI): Union Minister for Health and Family Welfare Dr Harsh Vardhan on Wednesday released the report on Longitudinal Ageing Study of India (LASI) Wave-1.
According to the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, LASI is a full-scale national survey of scientific investigation of the health, economic, and social determinants and consequences of population ageing in India. The National Programme for Health Care of Elderly, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare has undertaken the LSAI through International Institute for Population Sciences, (IIPS), Mumbai in collaboration with Harvard School of Public Health, University of Southern California, USA, Dte. GHS, United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) and National Institute on Ageing.
Dry run for COVID-19 vaccination conducted across India

Guwahati: A dry run for COVID-19 vaccine administration is being conducted on Saturday across all states and Union Territories of India.
This is the second round of dry run drill after the same was conducted in the states of Andhra Pradesh, Punjab, Gujarat and Assam between December 23-29, 2020. The dry run vaccination programme is being conducted at the Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) in Guwahati. We are doing a dry run where we have well-formulated every step right from the beneficiary list, bringing the vaccines in the proper way, how it is going to be stored and then how we are going to cross-check each beneficiary, how much time we are going to take in the entire process, Dr Sthapna Sharma, Assistant professor at GMCH said.
