Delay in appointment of Members impedes functioning of Water Resources Authority

Not even one meeting held since October last year Mohinder Verma JAMMU, Apr 14: Even six months after the appointment of its Chairperson, the Jammu and Kashmir Water Resources Regulatory Authority is finding it difficult to function properly as the Union Territory Government is not showing any seriousness in appointment of Members without which important decisions cannot be taken. Moreover, adequate manpower has not been posted in the Authority which otherwise has an important role to play for regulating and ensuring judicious, equitable and sustainable management, allocation and utilization of water resources. In the year 2010, the legislature of the then State of Jammu and Kashmir had enacted Water Resources (Regulation and Management) Act and this law was adapted by the Union Ministry of Home Affairs after bifurcation of the then State into two Union Territories for effective management of water resources.

Over 15 More AIS Officers Likely To Get Posting In J&K Soon: Report

SRINAGAR: Nearly 18 more officers of the All India Services (AIS) are likely to be posted in Jammu and Kashmir shortly after No Objection Certificates (NOCs) from various departments, some of whom are natives of the Union Territory while the Central Government has decided to create one single department to facilitate posting in J&K amidst reports that some of the officers have applied to their own State/UT Governments where they are posted, others to DoPT or J&K Government, reported Daily Excelsior. Over a dozen AIS officers including IAS, IPS, IFS, IRS and other Services have been posted in Jammu and Kashmir during the past few months ever since the Union Ministry of Home Affairs sought applications from the senior officers for posting in the Union Territory in view of the shortage of officers.
