Centre warns states, UTs against rising R factor of COVID-19, details here

Highlights In the letter, Bhalla expressed concern over consequent increase in the R -factor (reproduction number) in some of the states and UTs. R factor refers to the reproduction rate which is the number of people getting infected by one infected person. New Delhi: The Union Home Ministry on Wednesday (July 14, 2021), in a letter to all states and Union Territories, stated that blatant violations of COVID-19 norms have been observed in several parts of the country, including hill stations and asked the concerned authorities to ensure compliance to laid down guidelines. The letter was signed by Union Home Secretary Ajay Bhalla. In the letter, Bhalla said COVID-appreciate behaviour is not being adhered to in public places as massive crowds are thronging marketplaces, violating social distancing norms. Putting emphasis on the consequent increase in the R -factor (reproduction number) in some of the states, Bhalla said it is a matter of concern.

Home ministry denies permission for Sikh pilgrims to visit Pakistan © Provided by The Indian Express The Union Home Ministry Wednesday denied permission to 600 Sikh pilgrims intending to visit gurdwaras in Pakistan citing the security and Covid-19 situation in the neighbouring country. The jatha had Friday applied to go to Pakistan to observe the 100th anniversary of Saka Nanakana Sahib. The move was criticised by the SGPC and the Akal Takht. A Sikh Jatha had visited Nankana Sahib three months back. A letter from the MHA addressed to SGPC chief Bibi Jagir Kaur read: “This is with respect to a proposal by SGPC to send a special jatha to Pakistan from February 18 to 25, 2021 to attend the 100th anniversary of Saka Nankana Sahib . Recent inputs indicate threat to the safety and security of Indian citizens visiting Pakistan.
