Government has categorically said that state government s decision diluted the guidelines issued by the Union ministry of home affairs (MHA). The AIADMK government of the state, lifted the restrictions on movie theatres last week. State s revenue and disaster management department passed an order on January 4 to increase the seating capacity in cinemas, theatres and multiplexes to 100%.

In a release by the Ministry of Home Affairs, the Union government noted the decline in active cases of Covid-19 in the country, while adding a word of caution against the new strain that has emerged in the United Kingdom. “While there has been a continuous decline in the active and new Covid-19 cases, there is need to maintain surveillance, containment and caution, keeping in view the surge in cases globally, and emergence of a new variant of the virus in the United Kingdom,” the home ministry said.

Union Home Secretary holds virtual meeting with Bengal Chief Secretary, DGP

Express News Service KOLKATA: Union Home Secretary Ajay Bhalla held a meeting with Chief Secretary Alapan Bandopadhyay and Director General of Police Virendra on Friday evening through a video conference at the state secretariat.  Bhalla gave a nod to discuss the state’s law and order situation through video conference after Banopadhyay, in response to the Union Home secretary’s second letter asking the two officials to visit Delhi on Friday, said he would not be able to fly due to Covid-19 pandemic. Bandopadhyay had requested Bhalla to hold the meeting through video conference, a practice followed on several occasions during the Covid-19 pandemic.
