Solano Board of Supervisors stands up for victims of crime, sexual assault
FAIRFIELD Solano County supervisors on Tuesday adopted resolutions recognizing April 18-24 as National Crime Victims’ Rights Week in Solano County and the month of April as Sexual Assault Awareness and Prevention Month.
Supervisor Monica Brown emphasized not only the emotional toll caused by crime, but the monetary costs as well.
“. . . (A)nnually, rape costs the U.S. more than any other crime ($127 billion), followed by assault ($93 billion), murder ($71 billion), and drunk driving, including fatalities ($61 billion),” the resolution states.
District Attorney Krishna Abrams noted that while protecting defendants’ rights and justice reform are important, she said it is critical never to forget the crime victims.
LNU assistance center going up in Vaca; board OKs fee reductions
The county estimates it will lose nearly $1.69 million in revenue.
The board also agreed to place a temporary assistance center at the county property on Brown Street in Vacaville, next to the William J. Carroll Government Center.
Staff expects the center to be operational for three to five years.
The site was the proposed location of the Tiny Shelters project, and one area resident was concerned that the activity at the site, without any effort by the county to let area residents know what is happening, is going to cause some panic.
Solano County loans MidPen $200,000 for affordable apartments
FAIRFIELD The Solano County Board of Supervisors agreed to loan MidPen Housing Corp. $200,000 toward the purchase of the Sunset Pines Apartments in Fairfield.
As currently rented units become available, MidPen intends to create 35 units of affordable housing – with a 55-year affordability restriction – at the apartments located at 1705 Sunset Ave. The complex has 36 units.
Affordability is defined as 80% of the area’s median income, which for a four-person household is $73,950 per year. The 36th unit would be for the property manager.
The funds would come from the General Fund Committed Housing/Senate Bill 375 reserve, which was established “for purposes that include addressing temporary and long-term housing needs for children, families, special needs clients, and older, indigent and disabled adults,” the staff report to the board states.
