Government is moving full steam ahead with sweeping education reforms that could see the abolition of the Common Entrance exam, the establishment of middle schools, contracts for principals and a more focused approach to the study of new technologies.
In fact, Minister of Education, Technological and Vocational Training Santia Bradshaw on Wednesday revealed that with an ease in the country’s pandemic situation, Director of Education Reform, Dr Idamay Denny would soon begin the process along with numerous key stakeholders.
“All of those things are on the table and we wanted to have face-to-face discussions, talking to the country about the various proposals, but all of that had to be shelved because of COVID and all that people have been dealing with,” Bradshaw told

Environmental issues associated with large amounts of dust and ash on the island have left education officials considering hiring external assistance to supplement the work of ancillary staff at public schools.
Minister of Education, Technological and Vocational Training Santia Bradshaw is however rejecting the notion that her ministry was in some way unprepared for the face-to-face resumption of school on Monday.
She revealed that a massive effort from the Barbados Defence Force (BDF) was underway to prepare the Blackman and Gollop School for classes as early as Thursday. This is one of the only schools that has not yet been reopened.

Feverish attempts are continuing to ensure vulnerable families can benefit from Government’s care packages expected to be delivered this week.
Despite the Pack House of the Barbados Agricultural Development and Marketing Corporation (BADMC) at Fairy Valley and Bridgetown being a hive of activity yesterday, it is still short of a number of the produce required for filling the care packages as distribution days draw near.
Minister of Education, Technological and Vocational Training Santia Bradshaw who is leading the initiative told a recent press conference, the distribution would begin Feb 9-12, but officials were in a race against time yesterday at their respective locations of the BADMC as well as the Barbados Agricultural Society (BAS).
