The government targets to improve productivity in all industrial sectors to 5.6 per cent from the existing 3.8 per cent within the next 10 years, said Industries Minister Nurul Majid Mahmud Humayun yesterday.
The government is formulating a 10-year national productivity masterplan in collaboration with Japan-based Asian Productivity Organisation (APO) and Bangladesh National Productivity Organisation, according to a statement from the industries ministry.

DHAKA, Jan 21, 2021 (BSS) – Industries Minister Nurul Majid Mahmud Humayun today said productivity in all sectors will be increased to 5.6 percent from the existing 3.8 percent by 2030.
“Japan based, Asian Productivity Organisation (APO) and National Productivity Organisation (NPO) of Bangladesh have jointly formulated a master plan for 10 years. Through implementing the plan, productivity in all sectors will be increased to 5.6 percent from the existing 3.8 percent by 2030,” he said.
The minister said this at a greeting message for the 60th anniversary of the APO, said a press release.
In the message, Humayun said APO and NPO have jointly formulated the master plan for increasing productivity in different sectors, including industry, service and agriculture.
No decision to shut down sugar mills: Industries Minister

Industries Minister Nurul Majid Mahmud Humayun on Tuesday told Parliament that the government didn t take any decision to shut down the state-owned sugar mills, though the threshing of sugarcanes in six mills out of total 15 has been kept suspended for the current season. No sugar mill has been closed down. No decision has been taken to shut down sugar mills, he said replying to a tabled question from Awami League MP Ali Azam (Bhola-2).
The Industries Minister said there are 15 sugar mills under the Bangladesh Sugar and Food Industries Corporation (BSFIC).

Humayun for industrialization from grassroots level

DHAKA, Jan 18, 2021 (BSS) – Industries Minister Nurul Majid Mahmud Humayun today said there is no alternative to industrialization from the grassroots to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by 2030.
“Sustainable industrialization is possible only by conducting development activities of small and cottage industries. To this end, the activities of Bangladesh Small and Cottage Industries Corporation (BSCIC) need to be made more dynamic,” he said.
The minister said this while speaking as the chief guest at the concluding virtual function of the Small and Cottage Industries Training Institute (SCITI) Foundation Course in the city, said a press release.
