Cameroon to develop 35k hectares of land for fodder production in Adamaoua
The aim is to develop a 35,000 hectares area in Adamaoua, including 30,000 hectares on sites belonging to the Société de développement et d expansion des productions Animales (Sodepa), the Technical Commission for the Rehabilitation of Public and Para public Sector Enterprises (CTR) revealed in its recent report on public enterprises.
According to official sources, in the framework of that project, equipment will be installed in the Faro ranch and in the agropastoral area of Djohong. For the sources, the project will help Sodepa to ensure sustained and diversified meat production for national and sub-regional demands.
(Business in Cameroon) - Unemployed since October 18, 2020, the 350 staff of the factory of the Cotonnière Industrielle du Cameroun (Cicam)’s Garoua-based plant resumed work on February 2, 2021. According to credible sources, the plant restarted operations thanks to instructions from the President of the republic for the resumption of Sodecoton’s raw material supplies.
Specifically, the sources indicate, Sodecoton will deliver 75 tons of cotton to Cicam’s plant in Garoua. With that supply, the plant will run production for at least two months, they add.
Indeed, Sodecoton stopped supplying Cicam because of the debt accumulated by the latter. Estimated at XAF600 million in early 2020, the outstanding supplier debt owed by CICAM to Sodecotton rose to XAF1.3 billion in October 2020 (ed. note: a partial payment of XAF200 million was made in the meantime).
T
he implementation of the Municipal Cities Construction Program (PCCM), in whose framework a XAF10 billion credit line was executed, is ongoing in partnership with Feicom. A new credit line of XAF15 billion has been requested, the Technical Commission for the Rehabilitation of Public and Para public Sector Enterprises (CTR) revealed in the report it published in late 2020 on public companies’ 2019 performance.
Indeed, in July 2020, thanks to the partnership between the CFC and Feicom (the administration in charge of local development) and the assistance of the United Councils and Cities of Cameroon (UCCC), a XAF10 billion credit line was opened to help 24 municipalities build 594 housing units in their communities.
(Business in Cameroon) - Between 1977 (the year it was established) and 2018, state housing bank Crédit Foncier du Cameroun (CFC) has provided XAF420 billion in financial assistance to real estate projects in Cameroon. Thanks to these mortgage loans granted at subsidized rates, the beneficiaries have been able to build 85,000 homes and acquire 16,342 plots of land, the Technical Commission for the Rehabilitation of Public and Para public Sector Enterprises (CTR) reveals in its recently-published report on public companies’ 2019 performance.
According to the commission, these performances achieved over a 41-year period demonstrate that CTR’s market share in the real estate financing market is still relatively low.
(Business in Cameroon) - In 2019, the National Civil Engineering Equipment Depot-Matgénie (which became a construction company in 2015) won XAF12.4 billion worth of contracts. However, it was able to carry out just XAF1.3 billion of billable works (just 11% of the contracts won), according to the report on public companies’ 2019 performance recently published by the Technical Commission for the Rehabilitation of Public and Para public Sector Enterprises (CTR).
The marketing rollout initiated by the company since 2018 helps it secure a large order portfolio, which cannot be executed due to cash flow problems. These include road maintenance contracts, worth XAF15.7 billion, with various government agencies and private individuals. In the framework of those contracts, Matgénie is either a service provider or project owner and 81% of the contracts are for civil engineering works and 19% for studies, the CTR explains.
