Security firm warns of ‘significant privacy leak’ in AirDrop
German researchers outline flaw in Apple s wireless delivery system that could expose personal data.
body>The significant privacy leak was uncovered by researchers from the Technical University of Darmstadt in Germany, who claim they informed Apple about the leak nearly two years ago but it still exists. According to the report, the user doesn t even need to share a file to be vulnerable:
As an attacker, it is possible to learn the phone numbers and email addresses of AirDrop users – even as a complete stranger. All they require is a Wi-Fi-capable device and physical proximity to a target that initiates the discovery process by opening the sharing pane on an iOS or macOS device.
PerkinElmer, Inc.: PerkinElmer Supports PROXIDRUGS Consortium Aimed at Advancing Targeted Protein Degradation/PROTAC Drugs
Leading academic and industry cluster to help address 80% of disease-relevant human proteins currently undruggable PerkinElmer, Inc., a global leader committed to innovating for a healthier world, today announced that it is serving as a provider and co-developer of assays, instrument solutions and expertise for the PROXIDRUGS Consortium which is zeroing in on research for proximity drugs or PROTACs (PROteolysis Targeting Chimeras). PROTACs are a new class of drugs that take advantage of the body s own cell protein recycling system to fight disease by tapping into the 80% of disease-relevant proteins that are currently untargeted by today s available therapeutics. Led by Goethe University in Frankfurt, Germany, the Consortium includes researchers from the Technical University of Darmstadt, the Fraunhofer Institute for Translational Medicine and Pharmacology

You can only stay safe by disabling AirDrop discovery in the system settings of your Apple device, a study says
Two security loopholes in Apple’s AirDrop feature could let hackers access the phone numbers and email addresses associated with both the sending and receiving device, German researchers have found. The feature, which lets users easily transfer files between Macs, iPhones and iPads, is present in more than 1.5 billion Apple devices.
The two vulnerabilities are classified as severe and affect AirDrop’s authentication protocol, according to the paper called
and written by a research team from the Technical University of Darmstadt, Germany.
