Imagine if in order to get apple juice, the whole tree had to be ground up, and then the juice had to be separated. Well, that's kind of how things currently are with plant extracts … but perhaps not for much longer, thanks to a tiny new harvester.

In 2020, PLOS ONE published a Collection of research entitled Plastics in the Environment, submitted to a Call for Papers on this important topic. A year later, we are checking in with some of the authors who are a part of this collection, to hear their thoughts on where this research field is headed, and what all of us can do to support their work. They discuss their motivations for going into this field in the first place, the importance of reliable data, the collaborative nature of their work, and how recycling might change in the future.
2 heat pumps smart option for hotels in cold climates
Researchers have studied the energy consumption of 140 hotels in Norway and Sweden. The use of CO
2 heat pumps could cut energy consumption in these hotels by about 60 per cent.

Energy consumption in the hotel industry is high and contributes to global warming.
Researchers have been studying energy consumption, available energy sources and heating systems in the hotel sector over a five-year period.
They have come up with two important findings from a new study:
Hotels with heat pumps use 20 per cent less electricity for heating per square metre.
